WORKSHOP BMW SHOW PART ONE

It seems as though Takapuna is undergoing a much needed transformation on the creative front. Last night Workshop showcased their A/W 2010 offerings at the unexpected venue of Jerry Clayton BMW on Lake Road, in conjunction with the inaugural exposure of the new BMW X1. The marketing efforts were overtly directed toward making BMW synonymous with fashion, and furthering the brand's persona as a stylish and contemporary means of transport.

The styling of the show was collaborative - true to Workshop's reputation as a destination for a multifaceted assortment of casual and formal attire. Various items were presented from Twenty8Twelve, See by Chloe, Helen Cherry, Workshop Denim, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Hudson, Vanessa Bruno and on the rise designer, Alexander Wang.

Digitalism, The XX and several other upbeat artists accompanied the relatively short lived show; presumably it was the combination of the towering Alexander Wang heels and the speedy tempo pumping out of the sound system that were responsible for the vacant expressions cast across a few of the models.

The highlight of the evening was seeing my good friend Michael Whittaker (who is more commonly known under another nickname inappropriate for internet publication - Isaac, Olivia, Bond Street...) back from New York City. Michael has built up an extremely impressive repertoire whilst overseas, becoming one of the most in demand male models on the international scene. He is most certainly an asset to the New Zealand fashion industry and it is great to see him walking on the local runways again. On the female front, typically Derya Parlak stole the show with her convincing, and inherent effortless approach.

Judging by the fabulous h'orderves and the range of fine wine, and cocktails on tap I'm sure the repeat exhibition at the Newmarket BMW headquarters this evening will be equally successful.
